Divya Alter is a chef, cookbook author, educator, and co-founder of Divya’s Kitchen, an Ayurvedic restaurant in Manhattan. She is also the founder of Bhagavat Life, where she teaches Ayurvedic cooking classes and professional culinary trainings, and the co-creator of Divya’s brand, a growing line of Ayurvedic food products.
Originally from Bulgaria, Divya has dedicated her life to making the ancient science of Ayurveda accessible and nourishing for modern living. Her unique contribution is to guide people through mindfulness in cooking and eating, drawing on the timeless wisdom of Ayurveda. What many consider everyday routines — preparing a meal, sitting down to eat — she transforms into practices of meditation, self-love, and connection.
For Divya, consciousness education begins not at the conference table, but at the dining table. She inspires children to eat with awareness, families to slow down, cook at home, and communities to grow and prepare food with care for the earth and respect for one another.
“If we eat three times a day, then three times a day we have the chance to practice peace — by choosing foods that don’t encourage violence and don’t cause harm to our health.”
Divya warmly invites you to her table — through her restaurant, classes, trainings, cookbooks, and food products.
